Hi everyone! I'm in a bit of a bind with my basement floor and would appreciate your expertise. We bought this house in Detroit a year ago, and the basement has been nothing but trouble. After waterproofing issues and dealing with lead paint, we had asbestos concerns in the walls and floors. The abatement company did a solid job enclosing the walls with a durable paste, but the floors are now sealed with basic garage floor paint, which is already flaking off despite my concerns about it not adhering well. Now, I need to choose a better coating, but here's the catch: I can't sand or scrape due to asbestos risk. I've considered several options like tiling, adding a thin layer of cement, epoxy, and even liquid rubber, but I'm unsure what will work best without causing more issues. Any suggestions or advice from those who've tackled similar challenges? Thanks!

I think using a thin layer of self-leveling cement over the existing floor is a solid choice. It can help smooth out the unevenness and provide a good surface for whatever flooring you decide to put on later. Just make sure to clean the area well before applying it; a good primer could help with adhesion too!

Thanks for the tip! Do you think the self-leveling cement can stick well to the current floor, or is that a gamble?
