I'm a busy dad with two young kids and a demanding job, which has resulted in my yard getting out of control. My side yard has become overgrown with foxtails, and my neighbor had to remind me to deal with it since her cat plays outside. I tried pulling some weeds and then covered the side yard with mulch, but now I'm seeing weeds popping up through it. I'm thinking I might need to put down a weed barrier or plastic to prevent them. I also considered using vinegar to kill the weeds but am unsure about its effectiveness. Plus, I only managed about an inch and a half of mulch—should I have added more? We plan to use the side yard more as my kids grow, so I need to tackle this. In my backyard, I've got some dead grass, and I'm contemplating transitioning to clover patches after hearing mixed opinions online. Any advice on weed removal strategies or thoughts on introducing clover? I appreciate any help!

Definitely consider using a weed barrier if you're going to re-mulch; it's super helpful in keeping those pesky weeds down. Rake up the mulch, lay down the barrier, and then spread the mulch back on top. It might cost a little upfront, but it'll save you time in the long run. Good luck!
