So, I recently attempted to build my own standing desk using a DIY frame and top, but it didn't turn out well. The top started warping and the frame is super wobbly whenever I type or move around. Now, I'm on the hunt for a reliable standing desk. I've got a 27" monitor and a PC, so I need something that can handle some weight. I've come across a lot of options with MDF and particle board, but some sellers say they're only good for 5-10 kg! I also noticed a few metal frame gaming desks that look more stable. I'm looking for recommendations for a good standing desk or a DIY setup that won't wobble and can support my gear. I want to keep my budget around $400 if possible. If you've got suggestions or know which types of wood are worth it, please share!

I have a super basic standing desk made from a live edge ambrosia maple slab on motorized legs. If you’re interested in that style, just cut the edges if you’re not a fan of the live edge look!
I’d avoid particle board and MDF if you can. For a sturdy top, consider laminating strips of wood like pine or oak. It’s incredibly strong, and you can drill into it without worrying about softness. Just my two cents! Good luck with your search!
I got a butcher block slab from Home Depot, routered the edges, stained it, and paired it with motorized legs. If you’re willing to hunt around, you might even find a used countertop for free!
With your budget, you might want to consider buying a full desk instead of trying to DIY again. They often come well-built and designed to handle some serious weight, making them a hassle-free option!
Honestly, the 5-10 kg limit on MDF? That just seems ridiculous! You’d be better off investing in a quality desk that can handle your equipment. Don't settle for flimsy materials!

I’m still thinking about that too. Do you have any specific frame or full desk recommendations?
