Hey everyone! I'm trying to get my new home in shape and I've hit a bit of a snag. I recently took down a door between my kitchen and living room and now I've got some unsightly holes in the door frame where the hinges and lock were. I'm not quite sure what the best way to fill and hide them is. I thought about using some kind of filler and then painting over it, but I'm not sure what specific terms to search for. Would regular wall crack filler work for this? I'm also considering removing the door frame entirely, but it seems to match my floor's design, so I'd prefer to keep it for now. Additionally, there's this metal stop on the wall that prevents the door from hitting it, but I can't figure out how to remove that. Do I need to take off the rim to do that? The screws look tricky to get out. Thanks for any advice!

You should definitely check out some YouTube tutorials for filling those hinge mortises and bore holes after removing the plate. They have great step-by-step guides that'll help you out!
A cool trick is to grab some free paint sticks from a hardware store. You can cut them with a sharp utility knife to fit those holes. If they’re too big, you might want to glue a couple together. For any gaps left over, mixing spackle or drywall mud with a bit of white glue works wonders. Just let it dry, sand it down, and then paint over it!
Thanks, I’ll look into that!

Thanks, and now I know what those parts are called!
