Need Help Growing Bamboo Seeds – Zero Germination!

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some expert tips on growing bamboo seeds, specifically Phyllostachys Nigra (black bamboo). I bought 100 seeds and tried planting them in some good soil, but so far I've had zero success - not a single shoot! I also soaked and dehusked the next batch before planting them in a seedling enclosure with plenty of light and moisture, but still nothing. I'm aiming to use them in pots as a privacy screen. Any gardeners out there with advice on this? Thanks a ton!

We had a similar experience with Phyllostachys Nigra in pots before. Just to warn you, this bamboo can be invasive even in containers! It might start spreading outside the pot after a couple of years. If you're set on planting it, consider deep root barriers to keep it contained. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I'm now thinking about trying some clumping bamboo instead. I just need a few pots for privacy.

Just a heads up, if you’re in a region where bamboo isn’t native, getting zero shoots isn't too surprising! It can be tough to get bamboo to germinate, so don't get discouraged. It's a bit of a notorious plant for challenging growth at times! If conditions aren't right, it might not sprout at all. You might want to check the germination requirements specific to black bamboo.

Haha, I guess it's just fate that it didn't work out this time, huh?
