I'm trying to install a new vanity light in my 50s-era house, but I've run into some confusion. There are six extra black wires on the side of the electrical box, and I'm not sure what they're for or what I should be doing with them. Can anyone give me some guidance on how to tackle this or point me in the right direction?

It sounds like you're dealing with some older wiring that can be tricky. Those extra black wires could be for various things, like additional circuits or old fixtures. Before you start connecting anything, I suggest turning off the power and checking to see if any of those wires are live. If you have a multimeter, that can help you figure out what's what. Otherwise, you might want to consider getting a professional to take a look, just to be safe.
It might be a good idea to take some pictures of your setup and share them. Sometimes we need to see the layout to give better advice. If those extra wires are just hanging, they could be left unconnected, but make sure none are capped or exposed. Always prioritize safety! Let me know if you can share some images!
