Need Help Picking Parts for a DIY Cyclone Separator

I've been watching some videos about DIY cyclone separators, but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what parts I need to buy. I already have a shop vac and I believe I need a 5-gallon bucket, a lid, two 1.5" pipe pieces (one straight and one with a 90-degree bend), and a hose. Is that everything, or am I missing anything? If anyone has experience with this, I would love to hear what materials you've used!

Hey! It really depends on which cyclone separator design you're using. I picked up a Dustopper that worked great for my needs but just so you know, it required a 5-gallon bucket and a shop vac, which I already had. Here’s the link for it if you're curious: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Dustopper-PRO-High-Efficiency-Cyclonic-Dust-Separator-12-in-Dia-with-2-5-in-Hose-36-in-L-with-2-High-Flow-Sweep-Elbows-HD12B/322662836. It's pretty solid for a beginner setup!

Totally agree! The Dustopper is great for starting out, but I would recommend nesting two buckets together to prevent collapse when you fill it. Makes a big difference!

I'm also working on a setup like you. I'm planning on using a 5-gallon bucket with a lid, just need to figure out the right pipe connectors and hose lengths. Keep us updated!
