Hey everyone! I'm in the process of converting a van for living simply while I save up, and I need some advice on setting up my solar power system. My main power needs are a mini fridge, gaming for a few hours a night, and some LED lighting. Here's what I'm planning for my solar setup: 2 x 200W solar panels, 2 x 200Ah LiFePO4 lithium batteries (looking at LiTime), alternator charging capability, shore power connection, a DC to DC charger, and a 2000W inverter. I also want to monitor my power usage from my phone.
I have a couple of specific questions: what size MPPT charge controller should I get? Any budget-friendly tips or brand recommendations? And what do you suggest for a fuse box or breaker? I'm about to start building my van soon, so I'd love to gather the right information before ordering my equipment!

You should definitely check out Explorist Life on YouTube! They have loads of videos that could really help you grasp everything you need for your setup. I’ve learned a ton from them. Just make sure you know what components you’re choosing so they're all compatible and within your budget—good luck!
Gaming can really drain power, so knowing your gear is key. What kind of laptop or console are you planning to use? Each has different power needs, especially if you're using something like an Xbox Series S. If you're also planning on running a TV for movies, factor that in too!
First, get your solar panel configuration sorted out. You'll want to calculate the VoC and amps before making a choice. Assuming you're going with a 12V system, a 100/30 Victron charge controller should work well for you. Just remember, the angles for a van setup are often not ideal, which can affect efficiency.
