Need Help with a Mosquito Problem: Solutions for My Yard?

Hey everyone! I'm really struggling with mosquitoes this spring and could use some advice. I've always been able to tolerate them, but with all the rain, they're worse than ever! I've been careful about not leaving any standing water, but it hasn't made much difference. My yard is practically unusable since I'm getting swarmed within seconds of stepping outside. Even when I lived by a pond, the mosquitoes weren't this bad. I don't usually like pesticides because I worry about harming other wildlife, but I'm reaching my limit. Are there effective solutions I can use for my entire yard? Am I doomed to stay indoors all summer or smell like bug spray?

If you're looking for something to keep mosquitoes at bay while you hang out outside, Thermacell devices work wonders. Also, consider using 5-gallon buckets with mosquito dunks to trap the pests—there are plenty of DIY videos online that explain how to do this. Just a heads up: spraying can kill beneficial insects, so be cautious. You might want to check out DoMyOwn.com for some additional products to help too!

Are those dunks safe for other animals? Can I just use buckets without worrying about little critters accidentally going in?
