Need Help with Cucumber Beetles – What Can I Do?

I've been dealing with cucumber beetles in my garden, and it's been really frustrating. At first, I thought one looked pretty cool with its striped pattern, but after doing some research, I realized they're a pain! I've noticed more of them lately, not just on my cucumbers but also in my zucchini flowers. I've manually killed a few and even tried out some yellow bowls filled with soapy water, as I saw suggested online. With about 8 mature cucumber plants that I've been harvesting from, what else can I do to get rid of these pests? I'm really annoyed!

Ugh, I feel your pain! Those beetles attacked my zucchini first this year, and now most of my plants are dead. I did prepare by having replacement plants, so my second round of zucchinis is producing now, and thankfully, the beetles haven't bothered them much. I recommend having backup plants ready, just in case! It looks like I'll be without cucumbers for a few weeks.

Have you tried using peppermint oil? It can help mask the smell of your plants and deter the beetles if you mix it with water and spray it every week or two. It's worth a shot!

You might want to try using Kaolin Clay, like the Surround brand. It works pretty well to deter them! Just keep in mind, it can be tricky to cover all the leaves since cucumbers grow fast. Plus, it can stick to the cucumbers, making them tough to clean. I've also tried organic sprays like Pyganic, but they can get pricey and the beetles usually come back after a couple of days, plus they might harm helpful insects if overused.

I agree! Kaolin is one of the best options I've tried too. I found the same thing about the sprays – they're effective but only temporarily. It's tough to keep those pests away!
