I recently tried to disconnect an old dishwasher and ended up turning off multiple breakers to find the right one. Unfortunately, after switching the breakers back on, I discovered that power didn't return to several circuits, including at least one that isn't in the kitchen. I even noticed a spark while disconnecting the dishwasher, which likely resulted in a blown breaker when I checked the panel afterward. This has never happened before, and we have a relatively new electrical panel that was replaced about 10-15 years ago. I'm planning to buy a multimeter today to investigate further, but I'm wondering if there's any troubleshooting I can do before I call in an electrician.

You might want to check if all the GFI outlets were reset. Also, it's not a silly question—make sure you flipped the breakers all the way off and back on again. It’s a common step that’s often missed!

Just to clarify, there aren't any GFI outlets in the house. I've already flipped the breakers a few times, and considering the age of the house (150 years!) and previous work done on the wiring, it could be a bit tricky.
