Need Help with My Grandmother’s Collapsed House: What Are My Options?

I recently discovered that my grandmother's house, which I co-own with my sisters, has suffered a catastrophic roof collapse. After years of neglect and a lack of communication, I'm looking for guidance on how to proceed. Should I take the initiative to dismantle what's left? Can one company handle both tearing it down and cleaning up? What type of contractors or firms should I be looking for? I inherited this house about 30 years ago with my sisters, but it's become unsafe and beyond repair. I'm feeling overwhelmed and heartbroken about the whole situation, and I need practical advice on the next steps to take.

I agree this is a bulldozer situation. I suggest contacting a local fire department as they might offer controlled burn training, so you can safely remove the remains. Once the rubble is cleared out, you can explore selling the lot or discussing other options with your sisters about the property.

Just make sure you’re protected financially. It might be worth consulting a lawyer about your share, especially if your sister isn’t communicating.

Honestly, selling the property might be a good move if it’s really as bad as it sounds. You could likely sell it as-is for somewhere between $20,000 and $50,000 depending on the land it's on. Just make sure you get your fair share! It’s tough to see the family home in this state, but sometimes walking away might be necessary.

From what I can see in the pictures, it definitely looks like this house is in teardown condition. It’s beyond just a simple boarding up job. You'll probably need to contact a demolition service to handle it safely. Make sure to check local regulations and permits, too, just to avoid any fines from the city.
