Need Help with Pocket Hole Jig Screw Depth Issues

Hey everyone! I'm struggling with my pocket hole jig. I've been trying for over three hours to get the screw to sit flush in the wood. I'm working with 15mm thick wood, but my jig only has a setting for 16mm, which has left me a bit confused. I've set the collar to 16mm but the hole never seems deep enough for the screw to sit below the wood surface. I've experimented with various custom settings but nothing has worked so far. Can anyone provide some guidance on how to resolve this issue? I'm really at my wit's end here. Thanks for any help!

You definitely need to adjust the depth setting depending on the thickness of your wood. If you’re already at the maximum depth and it's still not working, your tool could be defective. I'd suggest trying those smaller screw heads, but if that doesn’t help, consider upgrading to a more reliable pocket hole jig. If you can, reach out to the manufacturer for troubleshooting, too.

Thanks, I’ll contact the manufacturer and see what options I have. Appreciate the help!

I encountered a similar problem with my Kreg jig, and switching to narrower head screws made a huge difference. Make sure to check if your tool can accommodate different screw types, like pan-head screws instead of rounded ones. Also, you might want to play with the depth of your cut by moving the collar slightly higher. Adjusting both the screw type and pocket depth should help you get that flush fit!

That makes sense! I’ll look for those pan head screws. Great tip!

It sounds like your tool might not be cutting deep enough, which is a common issue. You should check if the screws you're using have a smaller head, as a standard one might not sit flush in thinner material. I'd recommend getting some screws that are specifically designed for pocket holes. And remember to return that jig if it's faulty! I've had a lot of success with Kreg tools, so that might be a better option if your current one keeps failing. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I’ll look into those smaller screws and think about switching to a Kreg if needed.
