Need Help with Shelf Mounting and Fixings for a Home Project

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of mounting some shelves made from scaffold boards that are going to be about 3 meters long. I'm looking for advice on the best fixings to use since these shelves will be holding a collection of CDs, video games, DVDs, and records. I want to make sure they are super secure and strong, likely using black metal fixings. Any tips would be really appreciated!

Congrats on your first home! For your shelving, I recommend checking out your local hardware store where they have various shelf brackets rated for weight. Make sure to select brackets that can hold not just the weight of the shelves but also the items you plan to put on them. Since you're new to DIY, don't hesitate to ask the staff for tips on installation as well!

It sounds like a fun project! Just to clarify, since you mentioned holding CDs and DVDs, this might seem like a light-duty application, but considering the weight of the scaffold boards and the amount of items you'll load, it's definitely wise to think about strong fixings. Can you tell us what the base material is? Are you mounting on drywall, concrete, or something else? Knowing that will help in suggesting the right brackets and fixings for your shelves.

Good point! The shelves will be installed on internal walls, which are made of breeze block with studs and insulation, then plasterboard on top. I'm in the UK, so any local recommendations would be awesome!
