Hey everyone! I'm a 25-year-old guy and I've never shaved my armpits or pubes before, but I'm starting to think it's time to do something about it for hygiene. I'm not interested in waxing, though. I tried using a trimmer down there a while back, and it did not go well. I ended up with a lot of itching and even some red pimples, which I think might have been because my underwear was rubbing against the area. That experience really freaked me out, and I haven't dared to trim again since. Is there a way to trim without getting itchy or developing red bumps in my armpits and pubic area? I'd love to hear your suggestions!

Definitely try using Jojoba oil after trimming — it completely prevents razor burn for me. If you do choose to shave, invest in good shaving cream and make sure your razor blades are sharp. Dull blades can really irritate the skin. Also, keep your clippers clean and oiled as per the manufacturer's instructions, and wash with warm soapy water to avoid any infection.
To avoid razor burn, I recommend using electric clippers with the shortest guard, like 1/2mm, for your pubes. Going totally bald with a razor can lead to those red bumps and itching you experienced, which is why I stick to the clippers. For any hair on your shaft or balls, you can use a multi-blade razor, but you'll likely be fine just using clippers. I find it best to do this in the shower without any products — it works for me, but your mileage may vary!
Always use a guard when trimming, and don't forget to put a towel down for easy cleanup. It just makes things a lot easier!
I follow barber-like rules: apply some powder around the area to reduce friction, start with a wider attachment and gradually move down to a closer trim. After trimming, I take a shower and use shampoo to wash away any loose hairs that might irritate the skin. And after that, I pat dry and maybe use a separate cloth for the sensitive areas, then apply more powder to keep everything comfortable for a few hours.
