Hey everyone! I'm new to gardening and really need some assistance with tackling a serious weed problem in my yard. I've got dandelions spreading all over, thistles that are practically taking over, stinging nettle that seems to be growing like crazy, and crabgrass that suddenly appeared in my flowerbed. The lawn is pretty big (about 4000m²), and unfortunately, the previous owner didn't keep up with it, so I'm on my own since my husband works during the week. I've done some research and came across the vinegar method, but I'm worried about damaging the soil. I really want to plant some veggies and flowers, but these weeds are in my way. Any suggestions for safe and effective ways to deal with them? I'm all ears!

You might find a tool called 'grandpa's weeder' super helpful! It lets you stand while you weed, perfect for your back! Just keep pulling those dandelions before they go to seed. Also, consider making raised beds and using mulch to smother those weeds. A thick layer of cardboard followed by mulch can really help. It’ll keep moisture in while bringing in earthworms, which is awesome for the soil!
For a quick fix, I recommend mowing or weed-eating the weeds to stop them from spreading seeds until you can deal with them more thoroughly. Some folks suggest the 'chop and drop' method: cut the weeds and leave the clippings on the ground to return nutrients to the soil. Also, consider using a compost pile for the cuttings! If it gets overwhelming, there are laser weeders available for around $130, which might be worth a shot. If you want to garden there soon, maybe renting or buying a tiller could give you a fresh start! Just be sure to handle the weeds properly to avoid coming back in full force.
Sheet mulching works wonders! Use cardboard or old newspapers under mulch to smother weeds. It'll save you time and effort!
