Hi everyone! My husband had planned to DIY a patio for our son's first real birthday party, but unfortunately, bad weather and illness have thrown a wrench in his plans. Now we have over 300 square feet of dirt in the backyard, with only about 4 inches dug up in a few spots. I need suggestions on how to quickly and temporarily cover this area to still have an outdoor party. Would laying down some outdoor rugs work? Are there any other quick fixes that don't involve hauling gravel or mulch? We're also thinking about using tables to cover the dug-up areas. I want to avoid creating more work for my husband later when he goes back to finish the patio. Any ideas? Thanks!

You might want to consider using some landscaping fabric to cover up the dirt. It’s something you'll likely use later anyway! Toss in outdoor rugs at specific spots, maybe move some indoor plants outside for decoration, or grab a few potted outdoor plants to help create that festive backyard vibe. It’ll distract from the unfinished work and make your party feel more complete. Have a fantastic time!
Do you have a nearby park? It could be a good backup option! Although, if you choose that route, you'll need to adjust the invitations and some activities you planned for the backyard. It's worth thinking about options for the backyard first though!

True! The one-year-old probably wouldn't mind a change of scenery, especially since it's for his big day!
