I'm working on a bed platform and drawer system for my 4runner that I'll use for camping. The plan is to build a large drawer that's about 36" wide, 38" deep, and 8" tall, using 1/2" Baltic birch. The top layer will be made from two laminated pieces for added strength, making it 1" thick, and I'll use heavy duty accuride slides for smooth operation. My main concern is whether I should reinforce the bottom panel of the drawer to prevent flex and racking, especially since it will also serve as a pull-out table. I'd really appreciate some advice from anyone who's more experienced with these types of projects!

You're good to go! As long as you include at least one divider, it should hold up well. Just ensure the divider is dadoed, glued, and nailed to the bottom and sides for extra support.

Should I place the divider side to side instead of front to back? That might really help with stability!
