Hey everyone, I'm relatively new to woodworking and could really use some help! My wife and I found out that there are two floor air vents in our cabinets that were totally covered up by some recent renovations. The previous contractors put in one grille after cutting a hole, but just left the other two untouched. I'm trying to figure out how to cut out spaces for the new grilles, but I'm facing some challenges. The wood is recessed and really low to the ground, making it super hard to maneuver my jigsaw. I've been drilling holes and using a hacksaw blade, but it's been a struggle. Is there a better way to handle this?

Another vote for the oscillating tool here! It’ll make quick work of those cuts. And if you're on the fence about getting one, check out places like Harbor Freight for a decent, affordable option.
You should definitely look into using an oscillating tool for this job. It’s perfect for tight spots like yours and makes cutting through wood super fast! Plus, it's beginner-friendly, so you don't have to worry about too much risk when using it. You could also check out something like a drywall saw if you prefer hand tools, but honestly, the oscillating tool will likely save you a ton of hassle!
I'd suggest either an oscillating tool or a zip saw. You can find them pretty cheap at those discount tool stores. They’ll handle the job way better than what you're currently using, especially given the limited space.

Yeah, I totally agree! It's also very versatile for other projects, so it's a great tool to have around for future use.
