Need Tips for Growing Fruits and Veggies on My Balcony

Hey everyone! I'm new to gardening and I'm trying to grow strawberries and cherry tomatoes on my balcony in Miami. The humidity is quite high, but unfortunately, all I've got so far is moldy soil. I used all-purpose soil from Home Depot, cut up some fruit, and put them in the soil with a bit of water and plastic wrap on top. They're currently sitting on my balcony, which gets plenty of sun. What am I doing wrong? Should I try a different place for them, maybe somewhere darker and more humid?

It sounds like you might be having drainage issues if you're seeing mold. When the soil stays too wet, it leads to problems like that, which a lot of plants can’t handle. Try using pots with drainage holes to keep things dry and airy!

Just a heads-up! There's a lot of misleading stuff online about how to grow plants easily by just throwing stuff into the soil. Don't fall for those gimmicks — they often don't work. Stick to reliable methods for the best results!

The mold likely comes from overwatering and not enough airflow. Plus, the plastic wrap can trap moisture and cause the fruits to rot. It could be easier to start growing from seeds or buy young plants instead. Make sure to follow the planting instructions closely — like depth and sunlight needs for the specific plants you want to grow.
