I wrapped the rope around the root and tied some strong knots I found on YouTube, but the tree is still standing its ground. I'm looking for a budget-friendly alternative to use instead of rope—maybe galvanized steel cables? What do you think about that idea? Any other suggestions on what I could use to get this root out of the ground?

Have you thought about using a Sawzall? It can make cutting through the roots much easier. Just be careful and take your time. If the root is too stubborn, maybe asking a friend with a truck to help pull it out could save you some hassle!
