Need Tips on Enclosure Design for DIY Electronics?

I'm searching for helpful guides and blogs on enclosure design specifically for DIY electronics projects. I've noticed that most subreddits I checked out are pretty inactive, and many posts about projects only show prototypes without much follow-up. For instance, some OLED displays have mounting holes that make it easy to attach them to a board, but I'm curious about how to enclose these components in a way that looks good and isn't bulky. Additionally, larger displays often lack mounting features altogether. So where can I find good design resources?

I recommend exploring the learning resources available on sites like Adafruit and Sparkfun. They have extensive forums and tutorials that might point you in the right direction for going from prototype to finished product.

If you're looking for good guides, check out teardown projects for some designs you admire. They can show you how various components are put together. For larger displays that don't have mounting options, consider using double-sided tape or adhesive to attach them to a sub-board that keeps everything aligned. And if you want to avoid chunky designs, getting comfortable with 3D modeling is key! You might want to invest in a decent FDM or resin printer for your enclosures.

One approach I like is to lay everything out physically before deciding on an enclosure. Grab some paper or cardboard and sketch out a rough design based on your components. I’ve actually built full prototypes using cardboard and hot glue to test stuff quickly without waiting for 3D prints. Once you have an idea, either start modeling it or modify an existing enclosure that’s close to what you need.
