Hi everyone! I'm having some trouble with the caulk I applied around my bathtub a few months back. I completely stripped off the old caulk, cleaned everything thoroughly, and followed the curing instructions on the tube. Despite that, the caulk is already starting to shrink and peel. I also noticed that there are some gaps where the tile isn't even, which might be adding to the issue. Any advice on what to do? Thanks! Have you considered what type of caulk you used? Acrylic or silicone? It's a good idea to fill the tub with water after you apply the caulk so it can cure while stretched out. That way, it’s less likely to pull away later on.
The ‘shrinking’ you’re experiencing might be resolved if you fill the tub with water first next time you caulk that gap. Peeling, on the other hand, usually happens if the surface wasn’t completely cleaned of any old silicone or soap residue. Make sure your surface is clean, fill the tub, caulk, and then let it cure before draining – that should help!
