Hey everyone! I bought a house back in April and it came with a one-year warranty along with a vintage oven from the 1960s. Unfortunately, it only seems to work on the broiler, and the repair technician mentioned that it needs a new thermostat. The warranty company requires visible model and serial numbers to process my claim, but I believe the plate holding those numbers has become unreadable over time. I've already tried using a wire brush and some oven cleaner, but no success so far. Any suggestions on how to make those numbers visible? I've even included pictures for reference!

If the numbers are just faded, try using a sharpie to color over them, then wipe away the excess. This can help bring the numbers out for a clear picture. Also, taking a photo with your phone in HDR mode and adjusting the contrast might help capture the info better!
Honestly, if the thermostat is the only issue, why not DIY? There are lots of YouTube tutorials for replacing thermostats on old ovens. And for future reference, old ovens tend to last forever compared to new ones, which usually have a shorter lifespan. If you can fix it, you might save yourself some hassle!
You might want to send a clear picture of the builder's plate to the warranty company and see if they can work their magic. Sometimes they can extract the necessary information from that alone without needing the numbers to be perfectly legible.

Totally agree! Plus, I hear newer models don't always match the durability of these old tanks.
