I'm really upset! I clearly told my gardener not to use any pesticides because I grow basil and olive plants in my yard, and I also have pets that often play outside. Unfortunately, a new gardener came in and started spraying herbicides all over the place. I yelled at him when I saw it happening, but I'm not sure what to do now. How can I mitigate any damage from the chemicals? This is really stressing me out!

Honestly, you might want to reconsider having them do your gardening. If they can't follow such a basic instruction, it's probably best to find someone who will. Make sure to find out exactly what was sprayed and insist they help you mitigate it in some way.
Keep your pets away from the treated areas for at least 24 hours. It could help to water those spots to help push the chemicals into the soil faster. Stay patient and it should clear up soon!

Unfortunately, once chemicals are sprayed, there's not much you can do except wait for them to break down. It’s really frustrating! I had a similar issue before. I made it clear to my gardener about no sprays, but they still did it. I've had to change gardeners after repeated incidents.
For sure! I need my gardener to respect my requests; otherwise, it’s just not worth it.
