New to Gardening: Should I Get a Mower or Strimmer for My Overgrown Grass?

Hey everyone! This is my first time gardening, and I've got a bit of a problem. My grass is overgrown, about 6 inches long, and I'm not sure whether I should invest in a mower or a strimmer to tackle it. What do you think would work best?

I’d recommend going with a mower! If you can, get to it this weekend and start with the highest setting first. Give it a few days and then cut it again on a medium setting to really tidy it up.

If your lawn is pretty level, a good mower will be the best choice long-term. You might manage with the high setting given how dry it's been. But if your grass is in rough shape, you might want to consider a strimmer or even a flail mower, though it's hard to say without seeing it.

Good point! Level ground really makes a difference. I’ll keep that in mind!

Honestly, I think getting both is your best bet. A mower should handle it well on its highest setting, and then you can lower the blade for the next cut. Plus, a strimmer will help you finish those edges nicely. You can usually find both for around £100.

That sounds like a solid plan! I always find the strimmer helps a lot with the touch-ups.
