So, I made a bit of a gardening blunder. I wanted to create a flower bed, so I piled up about six inches of wood chips on a weedy patch, then added a few inches of soil and sprinkled some seeds on top. But now I realize that the wood chips are probably preventing anything from growing properly. I've heard that I'll need to wait a long time for the chips to decompose. Is this really as bad as it seems? My husband is pretty upset. Should I just remove all the wood chips, or can I salvage this?

If you keep the wood chips moist and your area gets enough sunlight, they should break down within the year. You might even be able to plant some shrubs this fall, so it’s not a total loss!
Honestly, it sounds like a hassle, but why not try to make the best of it? I had a wood chip experience myself, and some areas actually broke down nicely. Just give it time; you may find that you can plant flowers next spring!
That makes me feel better, thank you!

That gives me hope, thank you!
