Ordering Plants Internationally: Tips and Experiences?

I'm based in Central Europe where there's almost no one offering variegated cacti like astrophytums, which I'm really passionate about. The only option for me to obtain these unique plants seems to be through sellers in India or Indonesia, but I'm feeling pretty anxious about this. How do I know if these sellers are reputable, and how can I ensure the plants I receive are healthy rather than damaged? Anyone have any insights or experiences with ordering plants from abroad?

I've ordered some stapelia cuttings from a nursery in Thailand, and it worked out well, but I lost a few plants due to the shipping method. Best tip? Keep an eye on the seller for red flags! Legit ones usually have lots of photos of their own plants and respond well to queries. Just make sure they don't show off poached plants in their listings!

I've had good luck ordering plants via eBay. Just make sure to check the seller ratings and read reviews to gauge their trustworthiness. I've bought several succulents from Chinese sellers without any major issues—only one plant didn't survive due to poor packaging, but I got a refund easily. If they're reputable, they should ship well and arrive in good condition!

Man, I totally get the frustration—ordering rare plants internationally can get super expensive and complicated. Like, I want some rare Indonesian Echeveria hybrids, but the costs pile up with customs and phyto checks. I've looked into pooling with others for a larger order to split costs, which might be worth considering! Just a heads up, though: customs can be a real hassle, potentially even destroying packages without warning.
