Overthinking My Dream Vegetable Garden – Feeling Anxious!

Hey everyone, I'm really struggling with my new garden project and could use some support. I went for a big vegetable garden, going all out with tall raised beds and a beautiful (deer-proof) fence, inspired by Pinterest. The idea was to have a year-round food source while also boosting my mental health. But to be honest, I'm feeling really anxious about it. The space is large, and we get deer occasionally. Plus, it's all visible to my neighbors, which has me stressed out. I feel like everyone is judging me when I'm out there, and comments from friends and family, like "That's a lot of beds" or "Is this for the apocalypse?" really hit hard. It makes me second-guess everything, worrying they think it looks cluttered or that I'm going to fail. I'm trying to remind myself it looks beautiful, but can anyone else relate? Am I too much in my head, or do you think this size garden is unrealistic? Any advice would be appreciated!

It sounds like you're really putting a lot of weight on what others think, which is totally understandable but also kind of unfair to yourself. Your friends and family might just be joking around and not meaning to hurt your feelings. If the garden feels unmanageable right now, that’s okay! You could just fill a few beds with easy-to-grow flowers or even leave some empty to lighten the load. Just have fun with it!

And remember, gardening is a learning experience. You might fail with some plants, but that's part of the journey!

Honestly, it might help to let go of trying to impress anyone. You're trying to create something special for yourself, and that's what matters most. Embrace the chaos; gardens are rarely perfect! Maybe even put fewer plants in this year and let it feel less overwhelming? You can always expand later. And don't be afraid to share your harvest with your neighbors; they’ll love it!

Yes! Sharing can really help make connections and even create community around your garden.

Hey there! I totally get where you're coming from. It can feel overwhelming, but trust me, no one is thinking about your garden as much as you think they are. Most neighbors are likely too busy with their own lives to bother judging yours. Remember, this garden is for you! If it's feeling too big, maybe start small this year by just planting a couple of things and scaling up as you go. Enjoy the process! You've worked hard to create something beautiful, so don’t let anxiety steal that joy.

Exactly! Plus, you can always sprinkle in some flowers that require less upkeep to ease the pressure.
