Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice as I'm in the market for a new strimmer after my old Aldi one bit the dust. I've always used plastic line for trimming, but I've noticed there are a lot of strimmers now featured with plastic blades. My garden is about 200m², and I mostly use my strimmer for cutting weeds near concrete edges and paths. The line gives a bit when it hits hard surfaces, but I'm over having to constantly reload the spool—especially threading two lines at once!
I'm curious if a plastic blade could handle this kind of work without breaking every few minutes. I really don't want to shell out £50 just to end up with something that won't do the job. Also, if anyone has suggestions for a budget-friendly strimmer that's tough enough for regular use, I'd love to hear them! Thanks!

I’ve sworn off blade strimmers after some bad experiences. The plastic ones especially tend to break within minutes of tough use! If you don’t foresee heavy-duty jobs ahead, I'd stick to a traditional line strimmer. Oh, and I found a £10 attachment that converts my strimmer from a blade to a wire setup—it’s perfect for having the best of both worlds!
Honestly, plastic blade strimmers aren’t great for what you’re describing. You’re better off sticking with metal or line. A tip for tougher line is to soak it in water before using it; it really can help! If you're having trouble with loading, consider a better designed strimmer—my Stihl takes just about 30 seconds to load completely.
I wouldn’t go for a plastic blade strimmer. They break really quickly under pressure. If you're looking for something more durable, check out plastic-coated metal wire line—it’s been a game changer for me and lasts for years without needing replacement.
