Plumber Cancels on Me Last Minute—What Are My Options?

I had new countertops installed in my kitchen and scheduled a plumber to come right after. This morning, at our appointment time, the plumber called to say he wouldn't be able to make it until Monday because he had taken on an emergency job that would occupy him all day. It's currently Thursday, and now I'm left without running water in my kitchen for three days. I understand emergencies happen, but I can't help feeling upset that he couldn't even fit me in at another time before Monday. I wonder if there's any recourse for this situation. Would a discount be reasonable, considering the last-minute cancellation?

Totally feel your frustration, but honestly, you can live without a kitchen sink for a few days. Maybe think about it this way: if you treat him well when he comes, he could be your go-to guy for future emergencies! Just try to hang in there until Monday, and perhaps make the most of it by prepping food differently or even grilling outside!

Emergency jobs usually pay way more than routine ones, so it's not surprising he rescheduled you. It just happens in this business. If your need isn't urgent, he probably sees it as a lower priority. It might be worth it to call another plumber, though, if you're really in a jam.

Right, but if they can’t take you in sooner, it might be worth finding someone who can! Just be aware that this is common, especially during busy seasons.

Yeah, things like this can be frustrating, but plumbers often have to prioritize emergencies based on urgency. It's tough, but remember, if you had a massive leak, you’d want them to respond quickly too. If you stay polite and understanding, you might build a better relationship with this plumber for any future issues, which is worth a lot when you're in a bind!

Exactly! If it was your basement flooding, you'd want the plumber to go there before handling a kitchen sink. Consider this a learning experience.
