Poked a Hole in My Outdoor Electrical Conduit – What Should I Do?

Hey everyone! I accidentally poked a hole in a large outdoor electrical conduit while trying to drive some galvanized posts into the ground. I was using a rock bar when I discovered the hole, which is about the size of a golf ball. I panicked, covered it back up, and checked the power in the garage directly connected to this conduit. Everything seems to be fine, but I'm really uneasy about this! I'm usually of the mindset that if it ain't catastrophic, don't fix it, but I want to make sure I address this. Does anyone have any DIY solutions or advice on how to handle this situation?

Before doing anything, have a peek inside the hole to see if anything is damaged. If it's just the conduit and the wires look fine, cutting a piece of PVC and gluing it over the hole should work just fine.

It’s probably best not to just cover it up—water could get in there and cause you more issues down the line. I'd suggest digging it up to check if there’s damage to the wires inside. If everything looks good, you can seal it up with a PVC patch using glue. Just make sure you do it properly!

Thanks for that advice! I might just have to dig it up and check it out this weekend.

Definitely don’t just leave it as is. Water could be a real concern. Patch it up properly using some commercial epoxy designed for electrical conduits. You don’t want this to turn into something bigger!

Great point! I didn’t even think about the water. I’ll look into some epoxy options.
