Portable Air Conditioner Dilemma: Hose vs. No Hose Options?

I've been looking into portable air conditioners and noticed that most people recommend models with a hose. The challenge for me is that my apartment window is oddly shaped, making it quite difficult to keep the hose secured without it falling out. I'm now considering a no hose portable air conditioner that has an internal waste section I can empty every few hours. Is this option really more practical and convenient? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this and if I'm overlooking any important considerations!

There’s just no way around it—portable AC units need to vent. If you're eyeing something that claims to be a "no hose" AC, odds are it won't serve the purpose you're looking for. It sounds more like you’re thinking of a dehumidifier, which won’t cool the room at all. Honestly, regular air conditioners or dual hose models are your best bet for cooling effectively. Don't settle for less!

Honestly, I'm not sure a no hose option is effective. All air conditioners, including portable ones, need to vent heat somewhere. If you're looking at those no hose models, they might just be dehumidifiers or swamp coolers—those can work, but only in dry climates. Without an exhaust, the unit won’t cool the air properly.

Exactly! A true AC moves heat out of your space, and without a hose to vent that heat, a no hose model is basically just recycling hot air. It's like trying to cool a room by opening the freezer door!

If a hose isn’t working for you, a dual hose setup is much better than a single hose or no hose at all. It pulls in outside air while venting hot air out, making it more efficient than single hose options that tend to suck in hot air too. Plus, if a window unit is viable, those are usually the best choice for cooling efficiency overall!

Couldn’t agree more! I opted for a window unit myself and it cools the place so much better. If you really can’t make the hose work, maybe get creative with a custom adapter for your window?
