Hey everyone! My dad and I recently revamped my kitchen and installed a 1/2-inch 90-degree drop ear elbow above the stove for a pot filler. I left the cap sticking out through the drywall, thinking I could install the pot filler temporarily before the backsplash went in. Well, that didn't go so well. As I was attaching the pot filler, I noticed the drywall started cracking because I didn't feel any resistance. Now I'm wondering how far the nipple should stick out from the backsplash once it's installed. Also, what can I do to prevent this issue with the tile later? I definitely don't want to deal with cracked tiles like I did with the drywall. I know I rushed it since my wife was eager to have the pot filler in place, but I could really use some advice!

For the nipple, it should ideally stick out just past the tile so that you have a secure fit. A trick I use is to get a longer nipple and mark where it should ideally end up, then cut it down to the right size. That way, you're less likely to have the same problem you did with drywall.
