Procrastinating on Repotting My Plants: Is It Just Me?

I've been putting off repotting my plants and it's really getting to me. I absolutely dread the adjustment period they go through after repotting, and I've curated a lovely collection of cover pots, mostly thrifted, which makes it frustrating when I have to find new homes for my plants. I often wait for the right moment, hoping to do a 'musical pots' shuffle, but that turns into a big project because by the time I get around to it, half of my collection needs repotting. With summer winding down, I'm feeling the pressure. I'm curious if anyone else shares this struggle!

I try to repot monthly, but I feel like most of us always have plants needing attention. I usually do it twice a year. I get really excited in spring, end up doing one or two, but then that workload hits me, and it all gets postponed until late summer.

Same here! I just put it off, and it feels like the issue compounds after a couple of months.

Most of my plants are in their final pots, so when they get too root-bound, I just trim the roots and keep them in the same pot. I like planning ahead for the smaller ones I hope to transfer later. It leads to the 'need' of buying more pots, which is a whole struggle on its own!

I hear you! I sometimes end up dividing my plants if I can't upsize, but then I have to find a pot for the other piece, and it becomes a never-ending cycle!

I typically wait until a plant absolutely needs a bigger pot. I have some that have been in the same pot for decades, and sometimes I just add some fresh mix on top if needed. Orchids get frequent repotting, though—those guys need it every so often!

Exactly! I only repot if they need a bigger space, but a few have had soil that got way too old. It's tricky!

Haha, I’ve been procrastinating for two years! Don’t judge—I'm exhausted!

No judgment here! If it helps, we all have our struggles with pots!

Oh man, I'm right there with you! I procrastinate until my plants start sending out eviction notices, like roots sticking out everywhere and the soil drying too fast. The whole 'musical pots' thing definitely turns into a bigger task than I ever anticipate.

Totally! I have at least four plants with roots doing the escape act. Thank goodness for cover pots; I've had my fair share of nursery pot surgeries!
