Protecting a Wooden Window Frame in the Shower – Overthinking or Not?

Hey everyone! I've got a large wooden window frame in my shower, and I'm a bit anxious about how to protect it from water damage over time. I've already sealed it up with quality caulking and even added a temporary plastic sheet to keep it dry. Now, I'm considering a more long-term solution, like installing a custom glass cover over it. This way, I can still enjoy natural light without the worry of water damage. But am I just overthinking this? Is good sealing enough to keep my wooden frame safe, or should I really invest in that glass cover? I'm eager to hear what you've done in similar situations or any suggestions you might have. Thanks!

I had a similar issue and decided to go with PVC trim boards for my windows after experiencing water damage. They handle moisture really well, and I can even place plants on them without worry. Plus, I tilted my window sill slightly to allow any water to drain back into the shower, which is a great way to prevent buildup.

That’s a solid idea! I did the same but added a Vycor water shield to further protect my windows. Definitely worth considering!

If you’re looking for a waterproof solution, I’d recommend going with PVC trim and make sure the sill slopes back into the tub to help with drainage. It's tricky to make something fully waterproof once the tiling is done, but this can help a lot!

I've dealt with a similar setup and ended up installing a glass block window with an operable vent. It worked wonderfully for the last 25 years! The angled tiles allow water to drain correctly, keeping everything dry. The glass blocks provide both light and privacy, which is a bonus!
