Questions About Installing Vinyl Plank Flooring

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on a specific brand of vinyl plank flooring that I found on Home Depot. I want to install it in two areas: my basement, which has a concrete floor, and an upstairs area with a regular subfloor (currently carpeted). My main questions are whether I need a vapor barrier or underlayment since the product details say it isn't required. However, I've come across mixed advice saying I should still use them. Also, I'm wondering if the thickness is suitable for low traffic areas since my household consists of two adults, one kid, and two small cats. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I've done quite a few flooring projects at home, and here's what I've learned: Older installations usually required a foam underlayment to help with sound, but many newer vinyl planks come with a rubber backing that eliminates the need for it. Just remember to leave a little gap between the planks and the wall, as they can expand and contract. I learned this the hard way—if you don't leave that gap, you'll end up with bubbles in your flooring!

Thanks for the tip! So, even if the planks have that rubber texture underneath, it's still good to consider a foam pad for sound, especially for the upstairs area?
