I just got my hands on a vintage Wissota Hand Crank Grinder from eBay, but it came without any documentation. I have a few questions regarding its use: First, I believe the largest wheel it can handle is a 5" diameter based on my measurements—am I correct? Second, does anyone know where I can find a replacement grinder wheel that fits the 5/16"-18 threaded spindle? If no replacements are available, I'm considering creating a wheel using a 5/16"-18 threaded nut insert coupled with a metal sleeve to fit a standard grindstone (5" diameter, 1" thick) with a 1/2" or 3/4" shaft. Would that work? Third, there's a small hole above the spindle shaft which I assume is for oiling the gears; would light machine oil like 3-in-1 be suitable? Lastly, does anyone happen to have a copy of the original owner's manual they could share? Thanks in advance for the help!

That’s a good question! I had a similar issue with my grinder (different brand though). I needed an extra bushing to fit my wheel because of the hole size. I picked one up at the hardware store, it was a simple bushing made from either bronze or nylon. You can probably figure something out easily!
About that oiling hole, I’d say light machine oil like 3-in-1 is perfect for keeping internal gears lubricated. Just make sure not to overload it; a little goes a long way!
I think you might be overthinking the wheel situation. I’ve got a 6” wheel on mine, and I just made a wooden bushing from a dowel that fits loosely. I use a nut and washer to tighten it up, and it works just fine for hand cranking. Check it out!
