Questions About Using GoBoard and Insulation in My Bathroom Remodel

I'm in the middle of a bathroom remodel and have stripped everything down to the studs. I plan to tile all the way up to the ceiling using GoBoard on all the walls. I have a couple of questions: First, do I need to use the special screws that GoBoard recommends for mounting on all walls, or just on the wet walls in the shower? Can I get away with using regular drywall screws on the non-wet walls? Second, regarding insulation, I was thinking of using Safe and Sound Rockwool for the interior walls and one exterior wall. Is that a suitable choice for bathroom insulation, or is there a better option?

It's best to use the special hardware to mount GoBoard everywhere. Those screws have a wider head, which helps support the weight of the tiles better than regular drywall screws. Also, since you're using GoBoard, you won't need RedGard, just use the GoBoard sealant on seams and screw holes as per the instructions.

Are you pulling any permits for your remodel? If so, remember to check the insulation R-values to make sure they meet code. As for the hardware, I've never personally used it extensively with tile backer, but I believe it should come in the product family itself.

Safe & Sound is generally for soundproofing. For your exterior wall, if you're after standard insulation, use regular Rockwool instead. Safe & Sound works well for interior walls to keep the bathroom isolated from the rest of the house.
