I'm looking for some budget-friendly perennial plants that can grow quickly and either flower or show off beautiful foliage within a short timeframe. I'm a bit concerned since I might not be at my current place for too long and need plants that make an immediate impact. I have clay soil, but I'm open to amending it to help out these plants. Any suggestions? 🙂

If you're looking for quick blooms, annuals are your best bet since they grow fast and provide color almost immediately. For perennials, starting from seed might not yield results this summer because they usually take longer to establish. You might want to hit up a garden center for some mature plants. If you're aiming for next summer, you can still sow some biennials now, but keep in mind they won't flower until then. Happy planting!
I recommend checking out a book called 'Foliage Plants' by Christopher Lloyd. It's got some great insights on which plants might suit your needs! But just a heads up, since it's already late in the season, most perennials won't be flowering this year. You could still plant some that will bloom beautifully for next year!
Chiltern Seeds has a section for 'first year flowering perennials' that you might want to explore. However, you might be a bit late in the season to get those going now for immediate results. Still, there are some options you can sow now that will definitely flower by next year!
