I've pretty much nailed gardening—I've got herbs, produce, flowers, and even a great lawn under my belt. Strangely enough, though, I can't keep strawberries and lavender alive, and I have no idea why! I've managed to care for monsteras, alocasia (my favorite), calathea (even the challenging white fusion and its spider mites), palms, and African violets (another fave). Recently, I came across some information about fractals and how ferns are related to them, which sparked my interest. So, I took the plunge and bought a sliver lace fern and a maidenhair fern. They're currently set up for wick watering, which I find works great for finicky plants. I've heard ferns can be a bit tricky though, so I'd love any advice on what to do and what to avoid!

For your ferns, definitely keep them in that self-watering pot! They actually do better with more light than most people expect—just avoid direct afternoon sunshine. Lots of bright, indirect light is ideal! The common mistake is allowing them to dry out or putting them in a shady spot, and that can really upset them.
Would direction morning light be ok?
