Recommendations for Door Installation Tools

Hey everyone! I'm diving into commercial door installation and repair and need your advice. I've just purchased the M12 drill/driver kit and opted for the ratchet as a freebie. Now, I'm trying to figure out whether I should stick with a drill/driver combo or go for the installation tool. I'm particularly interested in how well the installation tool manages self-tapping screws and spade bits since those are crucial for my work with steel, aluminum, and wood doors and frames. Thanks for any insights you can share!

I’ve used the Fuel impact for installing various doors. It’s efficient! The installation tool is fine for lighter jobs like cabinets, but for heavy-duty stuff with self-tappers, the impact is way more effective.

Thanks for the confirmation! Sounds like the impact is really the way to go.

You're on the right track with the M12 line! Skip the installation driver; the drill/driver kit has been getting some great deals lately and covers just about everything you might need for door installs. Good choice on getting the ratchet, too!

I just bought that this morning! Looking forward to testing it out.

I recommend the M12 Fuel impact over the installation driver. I’ve been using it for three years now and it handles installations better, especially when you need precision for corners or recessed hinges. It can get a bit rough, though, so just keep your grip tight!

Thanks for sharing! That’s exactly what I’m looking for—something to reach those tricky spots.

In my experience, you definitely need an impact driver for those longer screws. It's just way more efficient and easier on your hands than the installation tool, especially if you're dealing with tougher materials.

If ear protection isn't a priority for you, I'd suggest going for the surge model. The Gen 3 impact can be super loud. It's also kind of nice to keep the noise down for customers while you work on their doors.

That's good to know! Definitely considerate for the clients.
