Renovating a 1900s Home: Tips for Replacing Walls and Ceilings

Hey everyone! I'm about to close on a house built in 1900, and I'm planning some renovations. The walls have these painted panels, and the ceiling is tiled—pretty vintage, right? I'm looking to replace both the walls and ceiling with drywall, but I've never tackled a project this big before. Any tips or advice you could share would be super helpful!

If you're replacing all the walls, especially on the exterior, think about insulation! It's a perfect time to rewire, add switches, and maybe even upgrade your plumbing. Plus, if you're still using cable or want a security system, now’s the time to put in any wires for that—way easier when the walls are open!

Definitely start by carefully removing a few ceiling tiles to check what's going on behind them. Is there a room above? If it's an attic, check what's up there! And don't forget to keep your yard in mind for debris, because there will be a lot of it!

Yeah, that’s solid advice! Just be careful while you're up there.

Good idea! Also, make sure to use drywall buttboards for a cleaner finish.
