Replacing a Stripped Screw on My DW735 Planer: Can I Use a Store-Bought One?

I'm working on my DeWalt DW735 planer and need to turn the blades around. I discovered that one of the screws is stripped—this tool was used when I got it—so I removed the screw, but I definitely don't want to use that one again. Can I just pick up a matching screw from a big box store like Home Depot or Lowe's, or do I need to order the exact part (DeWALT Part # 5140010-16) from DeWalt directly?

I think it should be fine to grab one from a store, too! Just be cautious—some people have had issues with lower-quality screws not holding up under the heat of the planer. If you’re worried about this, definitely check your local store instead of going for those Amazon options. It's common to replace all the screws during maintenance anyway to avoid future headaches!

I saw those reviews too! I want to avoid any issues with breaking or damaging my planer. I’m heading to Lowe's tomorrow—thanks for the tip!

You can definitely find a replacement screw at a big box store! Just bring the stripped screw with you to make sure you get the right match. Most stores like Ace, Home Depot, or Lowe’s have thread checkers to help you find the correct thread size. Also, if you can only find screws that are a bit too long, you can always cut them down to size. While you're at it, I recommend replacing all the screws for better balance and maintenance.

Exactly what I was thinking! I'm planning to replace them all too while I'm doing maintenance.
