Replacing My Over-the-Range Microwave: Should I Go for an Under-Cabinet or Wall-Mount Range Hood?

I'm planning to swap out my over-the-range microwave for a dedicated range hood and I'm stuck on whether to choose an under-cabinet range hood or a wall-mount model. I'm also working with a budget of about $500 for the hood itself. Any suggestions on brands or models would be appreciated!

If you're installing it under a cabinet, definitely go for the under-cabinet mount. But if there's no cabinetry above, then a wall mount is the way to go! Just make sure that the height between your range and the hood fits the style you choose.

But what if the space between the range and the range hood is too far? There's a cabinet above, but the gap left by the microwave is quite large.

If your budget is $500, I’d suggest sticking with the under-cabinet option. Installing a wall-mount hood usually means more work, like potentially relocating electrical outlets and dealing with ductwork. If you’re going DIY, the under-cabinet install is generally easier and requires fewer changes.

The budget is for the range hood alone. I'm trying to do it myself 😀 Just need to decide which option is best!
