I'm trying to decide between the Rikon 10" 1/2 HP bandsaw and the Bauer 14" 1 HP bandsaw. I know Rikon has a better reputation, but I'm on a budget of around $600, so I'm leaning towards the Bauer. The Bauer offers an 8-inch resaw height compared to Rikon's 5 inches, which is a major factor for me. Since Harbor Freight often has discounts, at what price point would the Bauer be a clear winner? Any advice would be appreciated!

Just to throw this out there, you might want to check for older USA-made bandsaws from the 70s or 90s. They can be a great deal and still work like a charm. But if you're set on new, Rikon has solid reviews.
Have you considered what you'll use it for mainly? If you won't be resawing often, a 10-inch might still be useful. But if you're primarily working with thicker boards, the Bauer's height could be essential.
If the Bauer is sturdy and has a good cast iron table, I’d choose it for the capacity and power. Bandsaws are simple machines, and if the price is right, you can always do upgrades. A good 14-inch bandsaw opens up a whole new world of capabilities compared to a 10-inch one.
Have you looked into used bandsaws? You might find a solid Delta 14" on the market for a decent price. They often provide better performance than the newer models.
In my experience, the Rikon might give you a smoother operation overall. Plus, if you're not planning on resawing often, some suppliers can do jobs for you at a reasonable rate.
That’s true, but one supplier quoted me $170 hourly. I'd rather invest in a better bandsaw for that! ?
The Bauer was actually my second bandsaw, and upgrading from the 10" Rikon made a noticeable difference. Just be on the lookout for those 25% off coupons, they come in handy!
Yeah, I'll be waiting for those coupons to make it a better deal! Thanks for the heads up.
I'd definitely go for the Bauer! Harbor Freight is really improving its reputation, and while their tools aren't top-tier, they're not the disposable items they used to be. With the Bauer, you're getting more power and height for the same price. Just make sure you use good quality blades, and you should be happy with your purchase!
Honestly, 9 and 10-inch bandsaws feel too limited for serious work. If you're looking for versatility, a 14-inch is the way to go. I don't specifically know about the Bauer's performance, but the 14 inches are generally what you want. If you can't find a good used one, you might as well go with the Bauer, just make sure it’s sturdy and has a good motor.
Yeah, I've heard similar things—waiting for a used Delta is a smart move. They'll save you money and provide great performance.
I agree with that! Would definitely keep an eye out for a used Delta, they're reliable.

I'm not going to resaw much, but I notice most boards are around six inches, so having the option would be helpful!
