I just had my roof replaced today, and unfortunately, the roofers broke a garage window. I'm wondering what's the fairest way to deal with this situation. Should I ask them to repair the window if possible, or would it be better to have them replace it entirely? I'm also considering deducting the cost of the window from the final payment for the roof, but I'm not sure how much that would be. The window is a standard size, double-pane glass, older and made of wood rather than vinyl. Plus, there are two other windows on the front wall of my house that I'd like to match. I'd love some advice on how to proceed!

If they broke it, they should fix it at their own expense. I’d suggest withholding an amount from their payment that's equal to the cost of replacing the window until they take care of it. That way, you're covered. Also, I get where you're coming from—matching the windows is a hassle, but it might end up being necessary if you want to keep everything looking good!
Had a similar issue recently with my garage window after a lawnmower mishap. I thought $700 for a fix was steep! But at least I could buy the window for around $300. If you can handle the replacement easily, maybe getting it done through a professional instead of the roofers could simplify your life.
Not from the home industry myself, but in a similar case, I’d have the window replaced and let them reimburse either me or the contractor directly. It's easier to handle that way instead of dealing with deductions, trust me. That avoids future misunderstandings on payments. Just keep things clear, for everyone's sake.
