I'm planning to run some ethernet cable from inside a wall that separates two rooms up into the attic. I haven't done much wiring before, so I'm unsure about a few things. When I run the cable up the wall, does it just go directly into the attic, or is there something that might block it? In my attic, there's blown-in insulation, so I can't see the actual floor; I just walk along the studs. If the wall isn't an exterior wall, is there typically an opening in the attic where wires can go down into the wall? Or should I expect to encounter some blocking material like wood or drywall? Any advice would be appreciated!

You'll definitely need to consider a few things when running that cable. There’s typically a header above the walls in houses, so when you get into the attic, you’ll find a 2x4 that you'll need to drill through. Start by locating your studs with a stud finder and marking your spots. When you're in the attic, you can drill a hole through the top plate. Just make sure you’re careful with insulation—it can get messy! After cutting a hole in the wall for your outlet, you should be able to fish the cable down from the attic.
Thanks! I'll review this more and come back for questions!
