Searching for Wireless Deadbolt Ideas for My Garage Carriage Doors

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of building some carriage doors for my garage that swing outward, and I'm looking for suggestions on a wireless deadbolt system to operate with a garage door opener. Ideally, I want to use remotes, and I'm considering either mounting them like a traditional deadbolt or pinning them through the header. Since I'm working with an older garage opener, I'm worried that might cause some complications.

Also, I have some gate arms to incorporate since one side of my garage has a vaulted ceiling, which limits headroom a bit. The electronics aren't fully set up; I'll need to create the backend myself. So, if anyone has ideas for a compatible wireless deadbolt setup or how it could integrate with the gate system, I'd love your input!

I don't have a specific product in mind, but I recommend seeing if your gate opener can connect to a smart hub like SmartThings or HomeKit. If that works, you’ll find a ton of wireless deadbolts that could pair nicely with a smart button. You could create a routine where pressing the button unlocks the deadbolt first and then opens the gate arms. It's a solid way to make everything work together!

That's a great suggestion! I’ve heard of setups like that being pretty effective.

You might be able to bypass the opener when the deadbolt is locked. Many older models have a 'remote disable' feature. If you have this, you could wire it to a contact on the deadbolt, so it disables the remote whenever the deadbolt is engaged. Alternatively, you could plug your opener into a smart plug and set it to power on and off in sync with the deadbolt action.

That sounds promising! I know my opener has remote functionality, so this might work for me.
