Seeking Affordable DIY Programmable Gate System for Gated Community

I'm in the process of setting up a new gated community and I want to install a user-friendly entry system that uses key fobs for access. Ideally, I would like a setup that allows me to:

- Buy inexpensive fobs in bulk.
- Program them myself at home or on-site instead of relying on a specialist.
- Keep it simple with a fixed-code system—no need for overly complex technology.

The main objective is to make it straightforward, budget-friendly, and fully manageable by me. I'd greatly appreciate any recommendations or experiences from those who have done something similar!

You might want to consider using a standalone 125kHz RFID reader with a relay output. This type allows you to program key fobs directly at your location without having to hire an expert. You can find bulk fobs that are compatible (like EM4100) for a very reasonable price online. Look for readers that offer keypad or master-fob programming, so you can control access right at the gate. It's a simple setup that runs on 12VDC and integrates nicely with typical gate openers—plenty of people use this for gated communities without a hitch!

That sounds like a solid plan! Just to clarify, with RFID, they'd need to tap the reader instead of pressing a button, right? I assume I could mount the reader on a post accessible from a car window?
